Young Writers' Papers, 2000 and n.d.

The collection (14 items, dated 2000 and n.d.) consists of several short essays and poems written by girls in the Duke Young Writers' Camp under the tutelage of Chamberlain. Assignments for the students included writing self-portraits in light of stereotypes, memory pieces, and poems celebrating parts of a woman's body. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture. (00-390). The addition to the collection (33 items, dated 2000) consists of 33 short essays and poems written by girls ages 11 to 13 studying at the Carolina Friends School under the tutelage of Chamberlain. Assignments included describing why they write, memory pieces, exploring stereotypes using a department store as context, and poems celebrating body parts. (00-442).
